The Interview Process (EDUC 7853)

The interviews that I have decided to take will have an effect on me.  This interview will be a little emotional because of the experience my daughter experience and the emotional toll on her that I had to experience with her as a small child.  At the time we had to choose a challenging topic, I was unsure of what I wanted to do, but I thought this would be best to see how others handle bullying situation and the encouraging words that would be shared with me to help the next child that comes into my present.

The first person I will interview will be Lieutenant Q. and he works with the police department and is a Criminal Justice Instructor in a local University. He is extremely passionate about his job and has taken the time to say that the well-being of children is very important to him. As he continues to talk, he stresses that when teaching someone in a local anti- bullying program the children learns and participate in the community event to explain to the other how it is important not to bully others and to help them if they are being bullied. He also explains that because I am a Pre-K teacher that is important to start with the children at this age now and to tell them to always talk to an adult with someone tries to hurt them in any way.

The second person I will interview is a Director of a program that helps families that is in assistant. She is there to refer children and parents to programs that will help them overcome emotional stress of physical abuse from others. It seems clear that she understands the needs of children and are able to help them overcome an obstacle in life. She states that not every situation is handled the same, but have helped out a great deal.

I often wonder how people learn how to deal and cope with people that begins to have low self esteem. Does anyone feel that they will be able to uplift a person that is being bullied feel better or would you refer them to someone else?

  3. Hello Anitra,

I think that this is a great topic to research. So much of this is occurring in schools today, and hopefully, each situation is being addressed individually. I think it’s a great idea to incorporate an anti-bullying program to assist in combating this challenge. I like the fact that they are asking others to participate by not being a bystander, but to stand for what is right concerning bullying. You are absolutely right; it’s never too early to start educating about the importance of talking to adults about what is going on in their lives. Take a look at the link below. It talks about not being a bystander, but an upstander.

  4. Anitra,
I think that we sometimes do not realize how devastating bulling can be. As educators, we have to teach students to not be ashamed of who they are or what they feel. They have to be proud of themselves despite what a bully says. We also need to teach them how to deal with stress and find ways to manage the stress from bullying.
