Final thoughts

I must say that I have learned and grown a lot more professional because of this course and with the help of my colleagues. I must say that Dr. Sheppard comments to my assignments and post helped me to understand what I did correctly and a few errors that was made, he me to become a deeper thinker and a more careful writer.

I must admit when I first began in this Education Specialist online course of study, I wasn't expecting it to be gentle at all. After all the demanding of putting my mind on the level in education helped me to understand that, when you want something bad enough, you will have to work hard for it.  This course highlighted the information I would need to progress in the education field.

In this course it brought my attention the effect and the risk of young children and their families.

I will continue to elaborate and apply the knowledge of the foundations required in this course to further my educational studies as I am confronted with different obstacles in my community.

The Interview Process (EDUC 7853)

The interviews that I have decided to take will have an effect on me.  This interview will be a little emotional because of the experience my daughter experience and the emotional toll on her that I had to experience with her as a small child.  At the time we had to choose a challenging topic, I was unsure of what I wanted to do, but I thought this would be best to see how others handle bullying situation and the encouraging words that would be shared with me to help the next child that comes into my present.

The first person I will interview will be Lieutenant Q. and he works with the police department and is a Criminal Justice Instructor in a local University. He is extremely passionate about his job and has taken the time to say that the well-being of children is very important to him. As he continues to talk, he stresses that when teaching someone in a local anti- bullying program the children learns and participate in the community event to explain to the other how it is important not to bully others and to help them if they are being bullied. He also explains that because I am a Pre-K teacher that is important to start with the children at this age now and to tell them to always talk to an adult with someone tries to hurt them in any way.

The second person I will interview is a Director of a program that helps families that is in assistant. She is there to refer children and parents to programs that will help them overcome emotional stress of physical abuse from others. It seems clear that she understands the needs of children and are able to help them overcome an obstacle in life. She states that not every situation is handled the same, but have helped out a great deal.

I often wonder how people learn how to deal and cope with people that begins to have low self esteem. Does anyone feel that they will be able to uplift a person that is being bullied feel better or would you refer them to someone else?

Let's Stop Bullying

Children being bullied

Challenge: Children exposed to risk, stress, or truma

Topic: Children who are bullied

I chose this topic because I love children and when it comes to them being hurt emotionally and physically, I do not like seeing something like that happening to them. As a child I was being bullied because children would laugh at the clothes and shoes I wore to school. I was a person who kept to myself and did not say much to anyone. Now that I have a daughter, she was bullied by children of the same race because of the color of her skin.
She was bullied during her elementary school years, which carried over into middle school and lastly to high school. There were lots of children who would call her names like, smut, tar baby or a monkey. There were children who she thought was her friend would sometimes join in on the bullying.

As an adult, I have seen children being bullied or have talked about someone bullying them beginning at a young age. I have come in contact with children who are bullied and with the person that was bulling others. In my Pre-K classroom, I have came up with lesson plans to incorporate in the classroom to help prevent this from happening. I will also have the children to help come up with some ideas about how and what to do when they feel someone is bullying them or a friend.
